Traditional Spinach Pie. Family Spanikopita Recipe

Yaya's Family Spinach Pie recipe.  So delicious and comforting and the way Spanikopita should be.




Oil a large banking dish and preheat oven at 220 degrees.

Wash and chop all the greens and place them in a large bowl (or a clean sink) with crumbled fetta.


In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients. 

Slightly beat the egg and add that to the dry mix as well as the oil and water. 

Mix well, making a batter like consistency.

Gradually mix the chopped greens and fetta into the batter.


Place the mix into the baking dish and sprinkle cheese on top.

Bake in the oven for 45 minutes on 220 degrees and then at 180 degrees for 30 – 45 minutes.

Insert a knife in the middle, if it comes out clean it’s cooked!

Cut it into squares and serve.  I individually wrap up the left over square slices and freeze them for other meals or snacks.
