Unforgiving City Maggie Joel Review and GIveaway

Secrets and lies throw three lives into chaos in the last days of the nineteenth century.

The Unforgiving City by Maggie Joel  - Book Review and Giveaway

Set in colonial Sydney in the final weeks of the nineteenth century, a time of unknown change, disturbance and desperation. A secret note in the wrong hands ...  (Its never good is it)

Despite sharing a house, Eleanor, Alice and Alasdair are each alone in their torment and must each find some solution, but at what cost to themselves and those they love? Evocative, immediate and involving, this is the sweeping story of three people, their passions and ambitions, and the far-flung ripples their choices will cause.

They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I did and this book was not one I was desperate to read, not everything can be a favourite.  However I was totally wrong. I loved it. You know when you go to bed to read a chapter and just don't put it down thinking just one more page and then you realise you have to get up in three hours.... that was me reading this book.

I haven't read any of Maggie Joels other books but this is her fifth novel and I'm sure it will be an award winner as her others have been. 'The Past and Other Lies', was published to critical acclaim and 'The Second-Last Woman in England' was awarded the 2011 Fellowship of Australian Writers' Christina Stead Award for Fiction.  These have been added to my must read list.

I'm a real bookworm and can read anywhere, any time, but my favourite place is tucked up warm in bed
