Beef Stroganoff a Winter Classic made even easier in the slow Cooker

Crock-pots or Slow Cookers are such a fabulous thing especially when you can sit down to a delicious tender Beef and Mushroom Stroganoff.

Traditionally made with strips of beef, my Slow Cooker Recipe uses cheaper Chuck Steak that becomes so tender and mouthwatering, you'll love it.

Beef Stroganoff Slow Cooker Recipe

crockpot easy beef stroganoff slow cooked beef

Ingredients

1kg Chuck Steak

500g Mushrooms sliced

800g Tin of crushed Tomatoes

300g Bacon roughly chopped

400ml Sour Cream

1 large onion sliced medium thickness

2 teaspoons of crushed garlic

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

3 Tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. Note:  Worcestershire sauce is the traditional sauce to add but i never have this on hand. I use one tablespoon Soy Sauce, one tablespoon smoked BBQ sauce like HP and one tablespoon of sweet soy sauce.

Chives to garnish

Rice or Noodles to serve

Method

Couldn’t be easier to cook!

In your slow cooker add your tomatoes, paprika, Worcestershire or Similar sauce and garlic, give it a good stir.

Add your chuck steak and fold in it through the sauce.

Add in all your mushrooms and pop on the lid. Cook on high for four hours

After four hours your meat should be tender enough to shred  or chop roughly into bite size pieces.

In a fry pan cook up your chopped bacon and onion. You want the onion browning and bacon cooked.  Add them to your slow cooker.   If you have bits stuck to your fry pan add a little water to the pan and give a gentle stir, you don’t want to lose those flavours so tip them into the slow cooker too.

Cook for about another hour.  Just before you serve turn it right down and stir through your sour cream.

Serve with Rice or Pasta.

Garnish with some fresh chives or parsley

Serves 8

This Recipe is linked with Money Mummy's Winter Budget Family Meals Week

Winter is a great time to buy Mushrooms (not from the supermarket)

I picked up these for $4.99 a kilo from the local fruit and veg shop.

Chuck steak was on special from our local butcher for $6.99 a kilo.

I bought a couple of kilos and have some in the freezer for the next slow cooked meal.

Those two specials make this a very budget meal.

You can find our other Recipe in her series for Roasted Sausage and Vegies here.
