the seret river abc dvd review

The Secret River is now available on DVD

The Secret River is a two part mini-series from the ABC based on Kate Grenville's award winning best selling novel.

Released on DVD on 24/6/15. This is an Australian story about Will and Sal Thornhill who are convict colonists in 19th century New South Wales.

Featuring Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Sarah Snook with a great Australian and English cast including Lachy Hulme, Tim Minchin, Trevor Jamieson and Samuel Johnson.

Its a pretty emotional story about the convict settlers and the traditional land owners.  Will & Sal travel the picturesque Hawkesbury River to claim their new land, however there is not only other neighbouring settlers but also the traditional land owners who also believe it is their land. The story shows not of an accepting union of land owners but basically a war.  Will is trying to provide his family a safe home in a strange land and this situation of fear and need leads him to do some really desperate and terrible things.

I think the mini-series is really well made and all actors should be commended.  I'd say i loved it but i don't think thats what this is about. I believed and felt involved and the actors really told this story and history well.

I can see how this is and award winning novel and i'm sure this series will win awards too.   If you didn't catch in on the ABC  it is released on DVD 24/06/15.
